The South African Navy is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Artisan Foreman to join its Fleet Command Headquarters in the picturesque naval town of Simon’s Town. This is a pivotal role within the Technical Upkeep Section, responsible for ensuring the operational readiness of the Navy’s mechanical equipment through expert project and contract management. Key Requirements
To be considered for this senior role, you must meet the following criteria:
- An appropriate Trade Test Certificate.
- A minimum of 10 years of post-qualification experience as an Artisan or Artisan Foreman.
- A valid driver’s license.
- An extensive skill set including:
- Project, Supervisor, Contract, and Financial Management.
- In-depth knowledge of Public Service and finance frameworks.
- Proficiency in legal compliance, technical report writing, and MS Office (Excel, Word).
- Advanced communication, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, and change management abilities.
Your Key Responsibilities
As the successful candidate, your duties will be critical to the maintenance and efficiency of the Fleet. You will be responsible for:
- Investigating and compiling detailed Statements of Work and Specifications.
- Managing the availability of repairable equipment to SAN repair facilities or external contractors.
- Verifying quotations and monitoring the progress of repairs.
- Carrying out the formal acceptance of repaired equipment and ensuring its return to the correct unit or vessel.
- Performing Class management and mechanical equipment management for refits, Docking and Essential Defects (DEDs), and Annual Maintenance Periods (AMPs).
- Verifying authority documentation and Armscor Dockyard store requests.
