Are you a skilled and experienced Refrigeration Artisan looking for a challenging and rewarding role within a prestigious national institution? The South African Navy’s Fleet Maintenance Unit in the beautiful port of Simon’s Town is seeking a dedicated professional to join their technical team. Key Requirements

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • An appropriate Trade Test Certificate.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ post-qualification experience as an Artisan.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Previous maritime experience will be a distinct advantage.

Essential Skills and Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of refrigeration test equipment and applicable machinery for refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
  • In-depth understanding of safety standards and the OHS Act.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively in English (both written and verbal).
  • Ability to read technical drawings, compile documentation, and write technical reports.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and other computer-aided technical applications.
  • Skills in conflict management, planning, and organising.
  • Ability to conduct in-house technical training.

Your Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be entrusted with the following key duties:

  • Render advice, guidance, and in-house training to junior artisans and apprentices.
  • Operate machining equipment and conduct gas/electronic leak detection.
  • Interpret job requirements from instructions, drawings, samples, and templates.
  • Strictly adhere to all safety and quality regulations.
  • Must be medically fit and able to work on ships and submarines.

Important Notes for Applicants
