About the Role

The Department of Labour is seeking a dynamic and skilled Public Relations Officer to join its team in Limpopo. This is a fantastic opportunity for a communications professional to act as the provincial spokesperson, manage media relations, and promote the department’s services to the public. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the department’s image and fostering strong stakeholder relationships.

Requirements

To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Qualifications: A three-year relevant tertiary qualification at NQF Level 6 in Communication Science, Marketing, Public Relations, Media Studies, or Journalism.
  • Experience: Two (2) years of supervisory experience and two (2) years of functional experience in media/public relations/marketing/communication services.
  • Knowledge: A solid understanding of Departmental Policies and Procedures, the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), Project Management, and the Batho Pele Principles.
  • Skills: Excellent planning and organizing, interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, negotiation, and event management skills. Computer literacy is essential.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The appointed candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing public relations and media liaison services, including acting as the official spokesperson for the Department of Labour in the province.
  • Organizing stakeholder briefings and exhibitions on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Marketing the services of the Department at a provincial level monthly.
  • Managing internal communications, including notice boards, intranet content, staff updates, and producing an internal newsletter.
  • Coordinating and facilitating all internal and external events in the Province, such as Imbizo outreach programmes and national commemorative days.
