A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a skilled Mechanical Vehicle Fitter Artisan to join the team at the Naval Base in the picturesque Simon’s Town. This role is critical in ensuring the operational readiness of the Navy’s vehicle fleet through expert maintenance and repair.
About the Role
This position is based at the Transport Depot in Dido Valley, Simon’s Town. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading technical repairs, managing workshop personnel, and ensuring all vehicle maintenance complies with strict standards and regulations, including the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).
Key Requirements
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following essential criteria:
- An appropriate Trade Test Certificate as a Mechanical Vehicle Fitter.
- A minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience as an Artisan.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Proven diagnostic experience is essential.
- Specialised knowledge of vehicle maintenance processes and procedures.
- Strong communication skills in English (both written and verbal).
- Skills in problem-solving, technical report writing, conflict management, and planning.
- Knowledge of legal compliance and computer-aided technical applications.
- The ability to assess service provider quotations and conceptualise innovative maintenance approaches.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Your daily tasks will include, but are not limited to:
- Controlling and executing minor vehicle repairs.
- Undertaking vehicle recoveries.
- Managing the workshop sub-section, including personnel and resources.
- Ensuring compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards.
- Handling the general administration of the workshop.
