This is a 12-month paid internship opportunity for journalism graduates, running from July 2025 to June 2026. Based in Gauteng, successful candidates will rotate between two major radio stations: Jacaranda FM in Midrand and VowFM at Wits University in Johannesburg. The programme is designed to provide comprehensive, hands-on experience in all aspects of radio news, including field reporting, news bulletin compilation, content packaging, and social media updates. Interns will also attend short courses offered by the prestigious Wits Radio Academy. A monthly stipend is provided, and applicants must have a relevant degree/diploma and a valid driver’s licence. About the Internship
This internship offers an opportunity to acquire hands-on radio broadcast and newsroom experience between 1 July 2025 and 30 June 2026.
Interns will rotate between Jacaranda FM (Midrand) and VowFM (Wits University, Johannesburg) every six weeks and must be willing to travel between the two stations. The programme includes attendance at various short courses offered by the Wits Radio Academy and provides a monthly basic stipend.

Requirements
- A Bachelor’s Degree or 3-year National Diploma in Journalism or a related field
- Valid driver’s licence (or currently in the process of obtaining one)
- Excellent command of English; bilingualism in Afrikaans and English is an advantage
- Competence in writing and voicing radio scripts
- Strong fact-checking and quality control skills
- Basic experience in using field/studio production and recording equipment
- Basic editing and multi-track mixing experience
