Are you a qualified and registered Civil Engineering Professional seeking a challenging and rewarding role within a prestigious national institution? The South African Navy is inviting applications for a Professional Engineering Technician position at its iconic Naval Base in Simon’s Town. Remuneration

A competitive annual salary package between R551 493 – R631 056 is offered, commensurate with the seniority and requirements of the role.

Requirements

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • A National Diploma in Engineering or a relevant qualification.
  • A minimum of 6 years’ post-qualification technical experience.
  • Compulsory registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineering Technician.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • A qualification in the Civil Engineering field is a special requirement.
  • Experience in Civil Engineering with Site and Contract Management will be a distinct advantage.

Key Skills and Competencies: The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, supervision, and project management skills. Additional essential skills include strategic business planning, financial management, technical report writing, and the ability to perform problem-solving and analysis. Proficiency in computer-aided engineering applications and presentation software is also required.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be entrusted with the following duties:

  • Compiling and controlling the Division’s Business Plan and Budget.
  • Setting performance measurement criteria and analysing feedback against objectives.
  • Evaluating performance, instituting corrective actions, and compiling annual evaluation reports.
  • Representing the Division at relevant strategic forums.
  • Applying project management principles to ensure successful project delivery.

  • Only shortlisted candidates will be required to submit certified copies of qualifications (not older than six months).
  • Successful candidates will be subjected to Personnel Suitability Checks (criminal record, citizenship, financial/asset checks, qualification and employment verification) and security clearance processes.
  • Appointment will be on a probationary period of twelve (12) months.
