Salary: R582 444 – R686 091 per annum (Level 10)

About the Role

This position sits at the heart of the Department of Defence’s (DOD) strategic planning function. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the DOD’s overarching strategy. You will play a key role in evaluating the external and internal environment, managing business strategy, and ensuring alignment with national imperatives.

Key Requirements

To be considered for this prestigious role, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: A Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) certificate AND a Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma (NQF Level 7) in a field related to management science and strategic studies.
  • Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience in a strategic management environment.
  • Skills & Knowledge:
    • In-depth understanding of relevant Regulatory Frameworks and Policies.
    • Sound knowledge of strategy development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
    • Excellent research, analytical, and report writing skills (knowledge of Conventions of Service Writing is preferable).
    • Strong communication and project management abilities.
    • Advanced proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • Ability to perform under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
    • Must be eligible and able to comply with the Department of Defence’s security clearance process.

Key Responsibilities

Your duties will be critical to the strategic functioning of the DOD and will include:

  • Assisting in the compilation of the DOD Strategising policy and updating functional guidelines.
  • Providing the strategic DOD mandate through comprehensive evaluation of external and internal environments.
  • Managing and providing DOD Business Strategy.
  • Coordinating and attending key strategising forums.
  • Assisting with the DOD Environmental Scan to identify and manage strategic issues.
  • Conducting research into best practices and benchmarking to inform the development of departmental policies, strategies, and plans.
  • Providing assistance in the internal management of the sub-directorate.
