Salary and Benefits

A competitive annual salary package between R382,047 – R433,176 is offered for this permanent position within the South African Navy.

Who We Are Looking For

The South African Navy’s Fleet Command is seeking two highly skilled and motivated Artisans to join the team at the Radio Station Goedverwacht, an underground facility in Durbanville. This is a unique role for a hands-on technical professional who thrives in a specialized, mission-critical environment.

Key Requirements

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following non-negotiable requirements:

  • An appropriate Trade Test Certificate.
  • A minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience as an Artisan.
  • A valid driver’s license (own transport is required).

Essential Skills and Knowledge:

  • Superior diagnostic and fault-finding abilities to a modular/component level.
  • Knowledge of Thermionic Emission principles.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex circuit diagrams.
  • Proven communication skills in English (both written and verbal).
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office and computer-aided technical applications.
  • Supervision, management, and teamwork skills.
  • Knowledge of the OHS Act, legal compliance, and conflict management.
  • Ability to write detailed technical reports and excellent planning/organizing skills.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be entrusted with the following duties:

  • Maintain and repair sophisticated communications equipment and their peripherals.
  • Implement corrective actions on essential support equipment, including diesel generators, power distribution systems, and air cooling systems.
  • Supervise and oversee work performed by contractors.
  • Perform any additional tasks delegated by superiors to ensure operational readiness.

Work Environment

Please note: This is not a typical workshop role. The successful candidate must:

  • Be able to work in an underground location with mechanical air and lighting systems.
  • Be prepared to perform shift work and overtime, including days, nights, and weekends.
