The South African Navy is seeking a skilled and experienced Artisan Joiner to join its team at the Naval Base in Durban. This is a fantastic opportunity for a qualified tradesperson to apply their craft in a unique and dynamic marine environment, with a competitive government salary and benefits.
Requirements
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- An appropriate Trade Test Certificate.
- A minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience as an Artisan.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Previous experience as an Artisan in a marine environment and specifically as a Joiner is a significant advantage.
Essential Skills and Knowledge:
- Excellent communication skills in English (both written and verbal).
- Technical report writing ability.
- Basic knowledge of Health and Safety regulations, particularly the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHASA).
- In-depth knowledge of Joiner processes, hand tools, and equipment.
- Ability to operate complex Joiner machinery and perform routine maintenance.
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and team collaboration skills.
- Must be physically fit to perform the required duties.
- Additional valued skills include computer literacy, financial management, planning, and mentoring abilities.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Executing all duties in compliance with the official Code of Conduct, Quality Assurance Manual, and safety standards.
- Performing maintenance and repair tasks according to laid-down standards and procedures, within specified timeframes.
- Implementing effective repair solutions for various Joiner-related challenges.
- Being a proactive team player and assisting with the training of newly appointed Shipwrights.
- Ensuring all work is completed to the high standard expected of a qualified Artisan.

Important Notes for Applicants

- The Z83 form must be originally signed, dated, and accompanied by a detailed CV.
