Are you an experienced artisan with strong leadership skills? The South African Navy, Naval Base Durban, is seeking a qualified and dedicated Artisan Foreman to join their team. Position Requirements

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • An appropriate Trade Test Certificate.
  • A minimum of 10 years of post-qualification experience as an Artisan or Artisan Foreman.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Previous painting experience is a distinct advantage.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Technical report writing ability.
  • Must be physically fit to perform painting duties.

Key Skills and Knowledge:

  • Basic knowledge of Health and Safety protocols.
  • Knowledge of specific painting processes, aids, and equipment.
  • Ability to operate spray gun machines.
  • Planning, organising, and project management skills.
  • Knowledge of Legal Compliance, Finance Management, and Change Management.
  • Problem-solving, mentoring, and coaching abilities.
  • Computer literacy and production process knowledge.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of duties, including:

  • Executing all duties in compliance with the official Code of Conduct and Quality Assurance Manual.
  • Allocating tasks to staff and ensuring they have the necessary resources.
  • Ensuring work is completed by target dates and managing any forecasted over-runs.
  • Managing the effective distribution and execution of all Job Cards.
  • Overseeing the Paint Shop Service to maintain stores inventory.
  • Managing the section’s administration and providing a supervised workshop facility.
  • Assisting with the training of newly appointed staff.
  • Being a proactive team player.

  • The Z83 form must be originally signed, dated, and accompanied by a detailed CV.
