Anglo American is offering a comprehensive Engineering Exposure Training Programme designed to equip you with hands-on skills and a valuable qualification.

About the Programme

This three-year learnership programme is tailored to provide young South Africans, particularly those from host communities, with vital technical skills and practical experience in high-demand engineering trades. Upon successful completion, you will be a qualified artisan, ready to excel in the industry.

Available Learnership Positions

There are limited spots available in the following trades:

  • Fitter Learnership (x1)
  • Boilermaker Plater Learnership (x1)
  • Rigger Learnership (x1)
  • Earthmoving Mechanic Learnership (x2)
  • Diesel Mechanic Learnership (x2)

Training Structure

The programme is structured to ensure a balanced mix of theoretical knowledge and practical application:

  • Year 1: Institutional training at the Engineering Skills Training Centre (ESTC).
  • Year 2: On-the-job training at the Mogalakwena Mine.
  • Year 3: Preparation and completion of your trade test.

Minimum Requirements

To be eligible for this learnership, you must meet the following academic criteria:

  • A Matric certificate with Mathematics (not Mathematical Literacy), Physical Science, and English (minimum 40% pass in all), OR
  • An N2 certificate with four relevant trade subjects, OR
  • An NCV Level 4 certificate in an appropriate trade (minimum 40% pass in all subjects).

Additional Trade Test Requirements

For the trade test, you will need an N2 certificate or NCV Level 4 that includes:

  • Mathematics
  • Engineering Science
  • Relevant Trade Theory
  • Industrial Electronics or Engineering Drawings

Conditions of the Learnership

  • Must be a South African citizen.
  • Must be prepared to work on surface in open pit environments.
  • Must pass a relevant psychometric assessment.
  • Must obtain a medical certificate of fitness.
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • A valid driver’s license is advantageous.
