The Department of Labour is seeking two dedicated and qualified individuals to join the Thohoyandou Labour Centre as Labour Inspectors. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with South Africa’s labour laws and protecting the rights of workers. If you have a background in labour relations or law and a passion for justice, this role is for you.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- A three-year relevant tertiary qualification at NQF Level 6 in Labour Relations, BCOM Law, or LLB.
- One (1) year of functional experience in Inspection and Enforcement Services.
- A valid driver’s license.
Required Knowledge & Skills:
Knowledge: In-depth understanding of Departmental policies and procedures, the Skills Development Act, Labour Relation Act, Basic Conditions of Employment Act, Skills Development Levies Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, COIDA, Unemployment Insurance Act, Unemployment Insurance Contributions Act, and the Employment Equity Act.
Skills: Excellent facilitation, planning, organizing, and computer literacy skills. Strong interpersonal, conflict handling, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities. Proficiency in interviewing, listening, observation, and presentation. Must be innovative, analytical, and possess superior verbal and written communication skills.
Key Performance Areas (Duties)
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Independently planning and conducting inspections to ensure compliance with the Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA).
- Executing independent investigations on reported cases of labour legislation contraventions and enforcing the law when necessary.
- Planning and conducting regular proactive (Blitz) inspections to monitor compliance with all labour legislation.
- Independently conducting advocacy campaigns to educate on labour legislation.
- Drafting and maintaining inspection plans and reports, including analysis and compilation of consolidated statistical reports on allocated cases.
