About the Role

The Department of Labour is seeking two dedicated and skilled individuals to join their team in East London as Programme Officers. This role is central to the monitoring and implementation of the Unemployment Insurance Act (UIA) and the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (COIDA) programmes. Requirements

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Qualifications: A three-year tertiary qualification (NQF Level 6) in one of the following fields:
    • Financial Accounting
    • BCOM Accounting / Accounting
    • LLB / BCOM LAW / BCOM in Commerce
    • Auditing
  • Licence: A valid driver’s licence is essential.
  • Knowledge: A solid understanding of:
    • Departmental Policies and Procedures
    • Public Financial Management Act (PFMA)
    • Unemployment Insurance Act (UIA) & COIDA
    • Public Service Act and Regulations
    • OHS Act, BCEA, SDLA, LRA, Skills Development Act, Employment Equity Act
    • Batho Pele Principles
  • Skills: Excellent facilitation, planning, organizing, computer literacy, interpersonal, problem-solving, communication (written and verbal), innovation, analytical, research, and project management skills.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Monitoring the implementation of UIA and COIDA Programmes.
  • Analysing systems to provide expert advice on sector-specific UIA & COIDA matters.
  • Coordinating processes to monitor and evaluate the impact of UIA & COIDA programs.
  • Providing support for the implementation of regular UI & COIDA Advocacy Campaigns, especially when amendments occur.
  • Supervising resources within the Unit.
