Are you an experienced Engineering Technician with a passion for naval architecture and marine engineering? The South African Navy’s Fleet Command Headquarters is seeking a highly skilled and motivated professional to lead its Constructive Section. This is a pivotal role within the Naval Engineering Services division, based in the historic and strategic naval port of Simon’s Town.

This position offers a competitive government salary (R551,493 – R631,056 per annum) and the chance to work on critical projects supporting the nation’s naval capabilities.

Minimum Requirements:

To be considered for this senior role, candidates must meet the following essential criteria:

  • A National Diploma in Engineering or a relevant qualification.
  • 6 years of post-qualification technical experience.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Compulsory registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineering Technician.
  • Experience in a Marine/Mechanical drawing office within a Marine Engineering/Naval Architectural discipline.
  • In-depth knowledge of Class and IMO rules and regulations for surface vessels.
  • Proficiency in AutoCad / Caddie and the MS Office suite.
  • Proven ability to compile and present technical reports, solve problems, and work under pressure.

Advantageous skills include experience in a commercial shipyard, knowledge of naval vessel rules, refit procedures, and naval stores procurement.

Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be entrusted with the following duties:

  • Supervising and leading the Constructive Section of the Naval Design Office.
  • Controlling the Constructive Acceptance and Trial functions.
  • Managing the constructive element of Support Vessel Engineering Changes (EC) and upgrade services.
  • Overseeing constructive projects, tasks, and functions.
  • Managing and organizing the resources and workflow of the Constructive Section.
