About the Role
Are you an experienced marine engineering professional looking for a leadership role within a dynamic and critical environment? The South African Navy’s Fleet Command HQ is seeking a highly skilled Senior Naval Constructive Engineer to supervise and lead the Constructive Section of its Naval Design Office in the picturesque Simon’s Town. This is a pivotal role that combines technical expertise with managerial responsibilities, ensuring the integrity and advancement of the Navy’s support vessels.
Key Requirements
To be considered for this prestigious position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- A National Diploma in Engineering or a relevant qualification.
- A minimum of 6 years’ post-qualification technical experience.
- Compulsory registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineering Technician.
- A valid driver’s license.
Essential Skills and Knowledge:
- Proven experience in a Commercial shipyard or marine constructive design environment.
- Essential experience in a Marine/Mechanical drawing office within a Marine Engineering or Naval Architectural discipline.
- In-depth knowledge of Class and IMO rules and regulations for surface vessels.
- Proficiency in AutoCad / Caddie and the MS Office suite.
- Strong ability to compile and present detailed technical reports in English.
- Demonstrated problem-solving, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
Advantageous Knowledge:
- Understanding of naval surface vessel rules and naval store’s procurement practices.
- Knowledge of refit procedures.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be entrusted with the following duties:
- Supervising and leading the Constructive Section of the Naval Design Office.
- Controlling the Constructive Acceptance and Trial functions.
- Managing the constructive element of Support Vessel Engineering Change (EC) and upgrade services.
- Overseeing constructive projects, tasks, and functions.
- Managing and organizing the resources and workflow of the Constructive Section.
