The South African Navy is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mechanical Artisan Foreman to join its team at the Naval Armament Depot in the historic town of Simon’s Town. This is a pivotal role that combines technical expertise with supervisory and management duties, ensuring the smooth operation of a critical workshop.
About the Role
As the Artisan Foreman, you will be responsible for the direct supervision of workshop personnel and their workload. You will play a key role in maintaining high technical standards, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and managing administrative and financial aspects of the workshop. This position is ideal for a decisive leader with a strong mechanical background and a passion for precision and efficiency.
Key Requirements
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following mandatory requirements:
- An appropriate Trade Test Certificate.
- A minimum of 10 years of post-qualification experience as an Artisan or Artisan Foreman.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Special Skills & Knowledge:
- Experience in a Mechanical Weapons Systems environment is highly preferred.
- Excellent communication skills in English (verbal and written).
- Technical report writing, project management, and computer-aided technical applications.
- Strong knowledge of legal compliance, financial management, and technical design.
- Proven abilities in problem-solving, decision-making, change management, and planning.
Key Responsibilities
Your daily duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Supervising workshop personnel and effectively managing their workload.
- Ensuring internal training and skills development of staff.
- Handling general administration and job-card administration via the OSIS computer system.
- Assisting in budget preparation and controlling the spending of allocated funds.
- Managing the control of stores and spares.
- Attending relevant operational and planning meetings.
- Performing building manager duties and ensuring full compliance with the OHS Act.
