Mechanical Artisan (Vehicle Fitter) Opportunity at SA Navy, Simon’s Town

The South African Navy is seeking a dedicated and qualified professional to join their team at the Transport Depot in Dido Valley, Naval Base Simon’s Town. Position Details

  • Salary: R382,047 – R433,176 per annum
  • Centre: Naval Base Simon’s Town, Transport Depot, Dido Valley

Key Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following criteria:

  • An appropriate Trade Test Certificate.
  • A minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience as an Artisan.
  • A valid driver’s license.

Essential Skills and Knowledge:

  • Qualified as a mechanical technician to conduct technical and mechanical repairs in compliance with the PFMA.
  • Trade tested as a mechanical vehicle fitter in vehicle testing and fitting.
  • Diagnostic experience is essential.
  • Specialised knowledge of vehicle maintenance processes and procedures.
  • Ability to assess quotations from Service Providers in terms of market-related costs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong planning, organising, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Knowledge of Legal Compliance, technical report writing, and computer-aided technical applications.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Obtaining quotations for vehicle services.
  • Managing the maintenance of outsourcing requirements.
  • Monitoring and finalising outsourced vehicle repairs.
  • Managing Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) in respect of safety and personnel.
  • Handling the general administration of the mechanical workshop.
